Summer 1 Project: Creatures – Circle of Life!

Our project launch …  We were all very excited when a special delivery of eggs was delivered to Lambton and Lumley. We watched them carefully and after a few days the eggs began to hatch. We loved watching the chicks develop and we were eager to stroke the chicks. We held the chicks carefully when we stroked them. We chose to write about the eggs and the chicks in the writing area. We enjoyed observing the chicks and making our own representations in the playdough and creative areas.

Literacy

We have been learning new letter sounds and tricky words. We are using this to read and write more. We have been writing for a variety of reasons. We are becoming more independent and are now writing sentences!

Knowledge and Understanding the World

Mrs Talbot has helped us to learn lots about minibeasts and their habitats. We worked as a class to sort photographs of minibeasts by different criteria such as legs or no legs, wings or no wings. We have built insect houses from recycled materials to encourage bugs to live in the Early Years garden. We have enjoyed bug hunting in the Early Years garden. We explored the different places where we thought we would find different minibeasts. We had quite a haul by the time we had finished…

Maths

We have been developing our spatial awareness skills in maths and learning how to manipulate different shapes. We made tangram pictures and used numicon to make a magic carpet square. After listening to the story ‘Grandpa’s Quilt’, we used squares and triangles to make our own square for the quilt. We explored different ways to fit the squares together.

Learning indoors and out!

We are still continuing to play and learn both inside and out each day. We love to explore, create, question, problem solve, negotiate, share and try things out.

Our year so far…

Autumn 2 Project: Turrets and tiaras!

Reading

We have learned letter sounds and their names. We are using our skills to read simple CVC words.

Writing

We have practised our letter formation and are beginning to write CVC words.

Maths

We used ‘Anno’s Counting Book’ to look at representations of numbers. We then had fun outside looking for representations of the numbers. We have enjoyed investigating the numbers which go together to make different numbers.

Understanding the world

We enjoyed learning about the traditions of Bonfire Night. We used chalk, paint and ribbons to make our own fireworks displays outside.

We learned about Festivals of Remembrance. We talked about the symbol of the poppy and painted our own representations.

We explored the similarities and differences between the castles and palaces which Disney characters live in. We completed a treasure hunt in the Forest School area to help us to match the characters to the places which they live in.

Expressive arts and design

We have built our own castles in the Construction Area. We designed our own shields. We produced our own Kandinsky inspired artwork.

Learning outdoors

We love to learn outdoors every day spending time in our lovely EYFS garden.

Home learning

Our teachers and friends love to see how we continue our learning at home.

Autumn 1 Project: Magnificent Me!

We found out all about each other, learnt about playing together, sharing and making friends.

Knowledge and Understanding of The World

We have been learning about our senses. We really enjoyed tasting different foods, some were sweet, some were salty, some were bitter and some were sour.

We used our sense of sight to find and share things that we liked to see in the outdoor area. We worked with a partner to use the iPad to take photos.

We enjoyed exploring Autumn and thinking about festivals that are celebrated at that time. We enjoyed investigating pumpkins and playing with our farm scene.

Physical Development

We are enjoying our Dough Disco and Squiggle while we wiggle. In Squiggle we dance to music and develop our gross motor skills. In Dough Disco we are strengthening our hand and finger muscles to help with our writing.
