The 278 children of Neville’s Cross Primary School would like somewhere to play!
Neville’s Cross School has a large playing field, but it is too wet and boggy to play on for most of the year. We would like to provide an all weather area on part of the field that will be somewhere for all the children to play, and can be used for year-round sports development within the school and in the wider community (outside of school hours).
Ideally, we want a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) something like the picture. We have had estimates that this will cost between £50,000 to £65,000 and would like to raise this money through sponsored events and external funding.
We gained planning permission for the MUGA in September 2016 and have now raised £48,000 through sponsored events, school fairs, film nights, children’s challenge activities, grant donations and parents sporting challenges such as the Coast to Coast Cycle Ride, Couch to 5K running group and individual marathon runners! We are continuing to apply for grants to match fund our activities and continue to challenge parents to take on their own challenges. We will put the project out to tender once we have raised sufficient funding.
In 2016, 4 of our parents became Neville’s Cross Battlers to swim the English Channel as a relay team, raising £5000 for the fund. In 2017, those same parents have organised a Couch to 5K, completed in April 2017 and a Coast2Coast Cycle which will took place in June 2017. Mr Beadle, Year 5 teacher, also became a Battler when he ran the Darkskies Marathon in March and Oscar and Zara Brown ran 100km across several months! Your support for any of these challenges is greatly appreciated. Further details can be found on our Neville’s Cross Battlers fundraising page.
We are grateful for any contributions, offers of help or suggestions for future challenges. Please contact Jacki Patrickson Jackipatrickson29@btinternet.com if you would like any further information.
